How the chart is calculated
HST 2-at-a-time: finished + 7/8". Trim version: finished + 1".HST 8-at-a-time: (finished + 7/8") × 2.QST (hourglass): finished + 1¼". Trim version: finished + 1½".Unfinished size: finished + ½" (two ¼" seam allowances). Trim oversized units to this size.

Frequently asked questions
What size do I cut for a 3-inch finished HST? Cut 3 7/8" squares for the 2-at-a-time method, or 4" squares if you want to trim to 3½" unfinished.
What size squares for 4-inch finished QSTs? Cut 5¼" squares, or 5½" if you prefer to trim the units to 4½" unfinished.
